An air classifier mill (ACM) grinding system combines a mechanical impact mill with an integrated air classifier, allowing for continuous, single-pass size reduction and fine particle classification. This system is used across a wide range of industries for the efficient and controlled production of fine to ultrafine powders.
How it works
Feeding: The process begins with raw material being fed into the grinding chamber, often via a hopper and rotary airlock.
Grinding: A high-speed rotor, equipped with impact hammers or pins, pulverizes the feed material through impact, attrition, and shearing.
Classification: An air stream is simultaneously drawn into the mill, sweeping the newly ground particles upward toward a rotating classifier wheel.
Separation: The classifier wheel uses centrifugal force to separate particles by size.
Accepted particles: Fine particles, with lower mass, are carried through the classifier wheel by the airflow and exit the mill for collection.
Rejected particles: Larger, heavier particles are thrown back towards the grinding zone for further size reduction.
Collection: The final fine product is then separated from the air stream in a downstream cyclone separator or bag filter, with the clean air being exhausted.
